by Tunexreporters

On Wednesday evening, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a meeting with Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), in preparation for Thursday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling party.

The meeting occurred at the State House in Abuja, with all 24 APC Governors present; however, the governors of Katsina and Akwa Ibom States were represented by their deputies.

After the private discussion, the PGF Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, informed reporters that the governors took the opportunity to extend their condolences to President Tinubu following the recent death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He mentioned that the talks also focused on strategies to strengthen the APC at all levels.

“We came together to formally express our condolences for the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari and to discuss the upcoming NEC meeting of our party,” Uzodinma explained.

He added that the meeting served as a platform for engaging in a friendly dialogue with the President on enhancing the party’s positioning and grassroots support.

“We exchanged ideas with Mr. President on the best ways to bolster our party from the grassroots level to the national level. It was a constructive discussion aimed at empowering our party to better serve Nigeria,” he noted.

When asked if the NEC meeting would lead to a consensus on the appointment of a new national chairman, Uzodinma refrained from giving a definitive answer, emphasizing that the results would only be revealed after the meeting.

“It is a National Executive Committee meeting; we cannot predict the outcome. You will see it for yourself when you attend tomorrow,” he remarked.

The APC NEC is anticipated to discuss significant matters regarding the party’s structure and leadership, which may include the ratification of a new national chairman to succeed Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned from the role after internal deliberations.
