The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have successfully retrieved their portal access codes to upload candidate credentials for the upcoming 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, Mallam Mohammed Haruna, the INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, revealed that nine parties had obtained their access codes by the close of business on Monday. He identified the participating parties as Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Commissioner Haruna clarified that the onus lies on the political parties to officially approach the commission for their credentials, rather than expecting INEC to distribute them. Furthermore, any party representative sent to collect the code must present an official letter of authorization from their party’s national leadership.
While noting that party officials have already undergone INEC-led training on the guidelines, Haruna strongly warned against delaying submissions. He emphasized that INEC has extended the daily deadline to midnight on the final day, stressing that the commission will not be held responsible for any technical hitches faced by parties that wait until the final hour.
According to the official INEC timetable, the window for submitting presidential and National Assembly nominations runs from June 27 to July 11, while the submission window for Governorship and State House of Assembly candidates is scheduled for July 18 through August 8.
