Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced his intention to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favor of another political party ahead of the 2026 governorship elections.

Reports suggest Adeleke may switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, indicated on Saturday that the Governor is still in the process of consulting regarding this political transition.

Rasheed noted that Adeleke met with the PDP leadership caucus, which included his Deputy, cabinet members, Special Advisers, and various lawmakers, at the Government House Banquet Hall on Saturday.

He confirmed that the PDP leadership expressed their support for Adeleke, passing a vote of confidence and pledging to follow him to whichever party he chooses.

According to him, “The Osun PDP leadership caucus unanimously supported Governor Ademola Adeleke and any decision he makes concerning the rumors of leaving for another political party.

“The leaders lauded the Governor’s leadership and performance, urging him to continue discussions with stakeholders both locally and nationally.

“Representatives from various segments of the party and government attended the caucus meeting, including members from the National Assembly, the State Assembly, the State Executive Council, and various advisory and elder groups.

“After receiving an update from Governor Adeleke, the meeting issued a communiqué reflecting their current stance on the matter.

“In this communiqué, the PDP state leadership resolved to support Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke in whichever direction he chooses. The meeting acknowledged that the Governor is still in consultation about his next steps.

“Attendees included Governor Ademola Adeleke; Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi; Senate Deputy Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi; other lawmakers; and the South West Vice Chairman of the PDP, among others.”
