Akpata criticized Obaseki for the unprecedented level of suffering experienced by the people of Edo.

Olumide Akpata, the candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming election, has spoken out against the current governor, Godwin Obaseki, stating that his leadership has caused immense difficulties for the people. Akpata mentioned in a statement on Sunday that the suffering of the Edo citizens has never been as bad as it is now under the Obaseki government, which started under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is ending under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He also mentioned that the current administration is proudly celebrating its 33rd anniversary, highlighting its accomplishments through various statistics. However, as I traveled across our state, from Benin City to Auchi to Uromi, I noticed a big difference between what politicians say and what is actually happening. The promises made by politicians have not helped the average person. In fact, they have only made things worse by not keeping their word and governing poorly. The last eight years have shown us how politicians can deceive us, with a government that switched parties but still didn’t care about its people.
Young people who used to be full of hope now can’t find jobs and feel hopeless. And our older citizens, who should be relaxing after working hard all their lives, are having a tough time. Our farmers, who are essential to our economy, are struggling with not enough help and falling apart infrastructure. Akpata believes that the hopes of a successful Edo State, which were strong 33 years ago, are now in danger due to being ignored and not managed well. However, even with these tough times, I see a reason to be hopeful. As I travel around the state, I am amazed by how strong our people are. I have met young individuals who are coming up with new ideas to solve problems in their communities, even when things are tough. Hearing about their bravery and determination every day shows me the real heart of Edo State.

This spirit cannot be taken away, no matter how poorly the state may be governed. We need to use this strong spirit to create a new path for our state. September 21, 2024, is a crucial day for us. In few days, we can change the direction of our state. Let’s leave behind the mistakes of the past and choose a future that shows how amazing our people are.

This election is not just about politics; it’s a fight for the heart of Edo State. It’s a decision between sticking with empty promises or starting a real change. He mentioned that even though it won’t be easy, the benefits will be huge. We can work together to change Edo State into a place full of opportunities, where everyone can achieve their goals. We can make a state where kids want to stay and build their lives instead of going overseas. A place where new ideas grow, small businesses do well, and we use our resources to make money that lasts for everyone. We can work together to create a better Edo State that we will be proud of in the future. Our focus will be on making sure everyone is doing well, not just a few people who are rich. It will be a big challenge, but we have the ability to overcome it. The history of Edo State is full of stories of overcoming challenges, and I believe we will do it again this time.” He spoke out as the Edo state governorship election draws near. Akpata had accused PDP supporters of damaging his campaign billboards. The Edo election will take place on September 21, 2024.
