Auchi, Edo State — Social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Monday stormed Auchi town and blocked several trucks belonging to Dangote Group in protest against alleged negligence over unpaid medical bills of an accident victim.
According to eyewitnesses, the activist mobilised sympathisers and physically obstructed the movement of Dangote trucks, demanding that the company take responsibility for the treatment of a young man said to have been injured in an accident involving one of its vehicles.
Videos circulating online show VDM confronting the truck drivers while vowing not to vacate the road until Dangote officials intervened. He accused the company of abandoning the victim who has been battling for his life at a hospital in Auchi.
“This young man is in the hospital suffering because of a Dangote truck. Somebody has to pay his bills. We cannot continue to watch big companies treat Nigerians with disregard,” VDM declared.
The protest attracted a large crowd of residents, leading to traffic congestion in parts of Auchi, while security operatives were later deployed to the scene to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
As of press time, the Dangote Group had not issued an official response to the incident.
