The Goretti Old Girls International (GOGI), a Diaspora-based alumni association of St. Maria Goretti Girls Grammar School, has awarded scholarships worth N7.15 million to 26 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The presentation ceremony, held on August 12 at the school premises, was led by GOGI Vice President, Mrs. Gloria Efemini, on behalf of the association’s president, Dr. Sweet Mordi, and members worldwide. Efemini reaffirmed the group’s near two-decade commitment to academic excellence and school development, stressing that the funds would be disbursed termly under school management to ensure transparency and consistency.
“We remain committed to honouring our obligation just as we expect the beneficiaries to uphold the standards that qualified them,” she said.
Under the scheme, 13 senior secondary students each received N300,000, while 13 junior secondary students each received N250,000.

Management and Parents Laud GOGI
The Principal of the Senior Secondary School, Mrs. Abieyuwa Abu-Osagie, thanked the alumni for their “invaluable support in enhancing scholarship and infrastructure.” She noted that staff, parents, and students were united in appreciation of GOGI’s unwavering commitment.
A parent of one of the awardees also commended the teachers for nurturing the children to merit the scholarships. He described GOGI’s gesture as “a blessing” and prayed for divine increase for the association.
Beyond Scholarships
The scholarship programme, running for almost 20 years, is only one aspect of GOGI’s contributions. The association has also delivered major infrastructure projects, including a block of 10 ultramodern classrooms and a block of 16 studio apartments for teachers and National Youth Service Corps members posted to the school.
With this latest round of awards, GOGI continues to strengthen its reputation as one of Edo State’s most impactful alumni associations, bridging the gap between past and present generations of “Goretti girls.”
