Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole stands tall as a rare gem in Nigeria’s political landscape—a man of courage, conviction, and commitment to the people, especially the vulnerable and downtrodden. His life and career remain a blueprint for effective governance and people-oriented service.

Champion of Workers and the Voiceless

In 1983, Oshiomhole was appointed General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, a union with over 75,000 members. His leadership was marked by transparency, courage, and tangible results.

Following Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, he was elected President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). He led nationwide industrial actions against unjust fuel price hikes and successfully negotiated a landmark 25% wage increase for public sector workers—one of the most significant labor victories in Nigeria’s democratic era.

Architect of Modern Edo State

In the run-up to the 2007 general elections, Edo State yearned for transformative leadership. Oshiomhole answered that call. Upon assuming office as Governor, he ushered in a new era of development that spanned all three senatorial districts.

His administration became synonymous with rapid infrastructural growth. Under his leadership:

Public schools were renovated and equipped, birthing the acclaimed Red Roof Revolution.

Major roads such as Airport Road, Mission Road, Siluko Road, and Upper Mission Road were dualized and modernized, turning Benin City into a bustling construction zone.

The multi-billion naira Benin City Storm Water Project was launched—the first of its kind—tackling decades of erosion and flooding.

A world-class Central Hospital was constructed in Benin City, improving access to quality healthcare.

Even neglected federal roads were rehabilitated by his government.

Thousands of jobs were created, and young people and women were empowered through skill-building and vocational programs.

For these achievements and more, Oshiomhole is widely regarded as the Father of Modern Edo.

A Leader Who Builds People, Not Just Projects

What truly sets Oshiomhole apart is his investment in people. He mentors and supports individuals across all backgrounds—tribe, religion, or class. He is not just a builder of infrastructure, but a builder of men—a rare and priceless quality in leadership.

A Vibrant Voice in the Nigerian Senate

Now representing Edo North Senatorial District, Oshiomhole continues to serve with unmatched zeal. He has championed the rehabilitation and reconstruction of key federal roads, including:

The Benin–Ekpoma–Auchi Road

The Benin–Sapele–Ologbo–Warri Road

The Benin–Onitsha–Agbor–Asaba Expressway

Thanks to his advocacy, these once-deplorable roads are now receiving federal attention. Edo State, a vital link between the North and Eastern Nigeria, is being repositioned as a critical transportation hub.

Empowerment, Oversight, and Grassroots Development

Senator Oshiomhole has facilitated numerous empowerment initiatives across his constituency. He has provided solar-powered street lights to enhance community security and has actively engaged in legislative oversight to ensure transparency and accountability in government.

He remains a true Nigerian statesman—an embodiment of integrity, development, and hope. A model for today’s leaders and generations to come.
