Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct New Peoples’ Democratic Party (nPDP), has indicated that FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike, Chief Bode George, and several PDP governors might be secretly working to sway President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027.
In a statement to reporters in Port-Harcourt on Sunday, Eze referenced recent comments made by Wike, Bode George, and the PDP governors, suggesting that these remarks could reveal their support for Tinubu’s re-election, despite the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing under the current APC leadership.
He also mentioned that if Atiku Abubakar had selected Wike as his vice-presidential candidate in 2023, Wike would have aimed to help Atiku win the presidency. Eze commented, “Atiku’s decision to reject Wike as his vice presidential running mate has been beneficial for both himself and Nigerians.”
Instead of concentrating on coalition-building, Eze urged the Tinubu administration to focus on effective governance that directly improves the lives of Nigerians and boosts the economy, rather than fixating on the 2027 elections.
In response to Bode George’s remarks that the PDP would be “finally buried” if Atiku secures the presidential nomination, Eze advised Nigerians to scrutinize George’s comments. He questioned who within the PDP, aside from Atiku, could pose a serious competition against a well-organized candidate like Tinubu.
Eze highlighted the struggles that the PDP and Labour Party faced in Lagos during the 2023 elections and expressed concerns that George might attempt to manipulate the 2027 elections in a similar fashion.
Regarding the PDP governors, Eze suggested their aim might be to either obstruct the party from presenting a strong presidential candidate in 2027 or to back a candidate likely to struggle for support.
He emphasized the need for opposition parties to unite and create a solid front to challenge the APC in 2027, backing Atiku’s claim that a coalition is essential to remove President Bola Tinubu from office.
In light of the PDP Governors’ Forum distancing itself from the coalition idea, Eze commented, “The stance of the PDP governors reflects deep issues in leadership. It has become evident that some governors are placing personal ambitions above the needs of Nigerians affected by current policies.”
Eze concluded by challenging the PDP governors, asking, “How can the APC be defeated in 2027 if opposition parties and factions fail to come together?” He urged them to rethink their strategies.
