Members of the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly have announced their endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027.
This announcement was made in a statement signed by the caucus, which was presented to reporters by Senator Barry Mpigi in Port Harcourt on Saturday. The caucus consists of two Senators and seven House of Representatives members, who expressed their support based on the visible achievements of Tinubu’s policies, which they believe are “working and on track.”
The nine members of the Rivers caucus include Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyesoh, and representatives Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi. They urged other potential candidates for the presidency to reconsider their aspirations.
In their statement, they praised Tinubu’s economic strategies, highlighting their intent to revitalize Nigeria’s struggling economy, among other accomplishments. They asserted that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is the best route for Nigeria’s future prosperity and development.
The statement reads: “We, the members of the National Assembly from Rivers State, comprising Senators and House of Representatives members, express our sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, with the role of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. We appreciate the President’s public recognition and praise for the Minister’s outstanding performance, referring to him as the ‘Master of Infrastructure.’
“After thoroughly reviewing the President’s economic policies aimed at revitalizing our previously struggling economy through his Renewed Hope Agenda, and considering the significant challenges inherited on May 29, 2023—including a concerning debt profile and high inflation rates resulting from N22.7 trillion in borrowing by the Central Bank of Nigeria under former President Muhammadu Buhari—we have concluded that the President’s economic plan is the most viable solution to our nation’s social and economic challenges. We believe the Renewed Hope Agenda is making significant progress, with tangible results that can greatly improve the welfare of Nigerians if given sufficient time. We are also optimistic that the reduction in inflation, a notable decrease in foreign debt, and promising growth figures supported by the IMF will positively influence the economy in the forthcoming years.”
They also expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his prompt response to the political turmoil in Rivers State, noting that his actions have initiated a peace-building process, and they hope for a lasting peace based on genuine intent.
The statement continued: “As members of the National Assembly representing Rivers State, we affirm our unwavering commitment to work towards the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
“As legislators closest to the people, we will mobilize our constituents with even greater effort than we did in 2023 to secure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We call on all Nigerians to support the continuation of the Renewed Hope Agenda as the most reliable means for Nigeria’s progress and prosperity. Therefore, we urge any aspiring presidential candidates, especially those with persistent ambitions, to set aside their desires and unite behind our esteemed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for the 2027 elections.”
