Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has intervened in the ongoing dispute between National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and former Police Service Commission commissioner Hajia Naja’atu Muhammad.
El-Rufai claims that Ribadu falsely stated he never accused President Bola Tinubu of corruption during his tenure as EFCC chairman. He further suggested that the NSA might be experiencing memory issues.
Hajia Muhammad had previously alleged in a TikTok video that Ribadu had labeled President Tinubu, Senators George Akume and Orji Uzor Kalu, as corrupt governors when he was at the helm of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In response, Ribadu, through his lawyer Dr. Ahmed Raji SAN, demanded a public apology and retraction from Muhammad, citing irreparable damage to the NSA’s reputation due to her claims.
Raji’s letter to Muhammad emphasized that she had accused Ribadu of naming prominent former governors as the most corrupt while serving as EFCC chairman. He argued that Ribadu had never actually made such statements about Tinubu or the senators mentioned.
El-Rufai stepped in, asserting that official records from Senate proceedings and Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings would confirm Ribadu’s original accusations against Tinubu in 2006. He criticized Ribadu for being dishonest, suggesting the NSA was suffering from “serious amnesia,” and referenced past documentation that would substantiate the allegations Ribadu had made.
Attempts to reach the NSA or his spokesperson for a comment were unsuccessful.
