Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 general elections, despite opposition alliances forming against him.
Fayose, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Tinubu’s political savvy and leadership acumen make him a formidable candidate who cannot be defeated. Speaking on a radio programme aired on Adaba 88.9 FM in Akure, Ondo State, and monitored by Tunexreportes, Fayose stated:
“I’m not deceiving myself. Tinubu will win in 2027. Even though I’m not in the APC, he will be re-elected. Recall that in 2023, many within his own party didn’t support him. Despite that, he triumphed. Remember what the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, did with the Naira in an attempt to stop him, and even the late Muhammadu Buhari didn’t back him. Yet, Tinubu won. He knows politics inside out. So, do I think some coalition can stop him now? Not at all.”
Fayose clarified that his support for Tinubu is personal and insisted he remains committed to the PDP, despite internal strife and defections rocking the party.
“I won’t defect. I will never join APC. When your household is in crisis, do you abandon it? No. I’ll stay and fight from within. In 2027, Peter Obi will come second, PDP will place fourth,” he predicted.
He described the PDP as a “carcass,” blaming mass defections to the APC and African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the party’s decline. He criticized PDP leaders for sidelining him despite his long-time loyalty and support, including his backing of former Rivers State Governor, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“The PDP is in ruins; there’s nothing left to destroy. I’ve labored for this party. Many in the ADC today, like Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, and Nasir El-Rufai, drew their strength from the PDP. I’m still not in APC, but those who accused me of anti-party activities are now leaving PDP themselves. The party’s crisis is self-inflicted and worsening.”
He also noted that both Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar were formerly with the PDP, with Obi serving as Anambra governor under its platform, while Atiku has moved in and out of the party. However, Fayose defended his loyalty to Wike, who, he said, remained in PDP and funded it during turbulent times.
On Ekiti politics, Fayose urged support for Governor Abiodun Oyebanji in the upcoming gubernatorial election, lauding the governor’s development projects. He added that all former governors of the state have agreed to back Oyebanji’s re-election.
“Anyone opposing Oyebanji’s re-election is an enemy of progress,” Fayose declared.
