Chelsea dominated the first half and were rewarded with a goal just before halftime when Noni Madueke delivered a cross from the right, headed in by Marc Cucurella.
Nicolas Jackson extended Chelsea’s advantage in the 80th minute, and despite a late goal from Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Chelsea held on for the win. This marks Chelsea’s fifth consecutive victory, positioning them as significant contenders against Liverpool this season, especially with Arsenal and Manchester City struggling.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s impressive performance on the south coast added to their rollercoaster season under Ange Postecoglou, as they have now won seven and lost seven out of 16 top-flight games.
James Maddison struck first just 36 seconds into the match, followed by goals from Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Pape Sarr during a remarkable 25-minute stretch. Maddison scored again just before halftime, bringing the score to 5-0 at the break, but no further goals were added in the second half.
In earlier matches, Ismaila Sarr scored twice, helping Crystal Palace to a 3-1 win over Brighton, which moved them four points clear of the relegation zone. Additionally, Wolves, currently in the relegation zone, dismissed manager Gary O’Neil following their fourth consecutive loss in the Premier League.
