The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 69,376 Nigerians pre-registered online within the first seven hours of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the registration portal went live at 8:30am and by 3:30pm, tens of thousands had already completed pre-registration.
Of the total figure, 33,803 (48.7%) are male while 35,573 (51.3%) are female. In terms of age distribution, 48,033 (69.2%) are young Nigerians between 18 and 34 years old.
Olumekun further revealed that the in-person registration option will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at INEC’s 811 offices nationwide, operating weekdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Both online and physical registration will run simultaneously throughout the exercise.
He stressed that the CVR is strictly for Nigerians who are 18 years and above and not previously registered, warning that multiple registrations are illegal. However, transfer of voter cards, and replacement of lost or damaged cards will also be accommodated.
INEC assured that weekly updates on registration figures, including breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability, will be provided throughout the CVR period.
