On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted a request to the National Assembly for the approval of the Rivers State Government’s 2025 budget. He stated that the proposed budget of N1.481 trillion is necessary due to the Supreme Court’s annulment of the state’s 2025 budget and the current emergency rule in the state.
Under this emergency rule, the Rivers Assembly is not functioning, which requires the National Assembly to assume the legislative responsibilities of the state assembly in line with the amended 1999 constitution.
The budget allocates ₦324 billion for infrastructure, ₦166 billion for healthcare, ₦75.6 billion for education, and ₦31.4 billion for agriculture. The President noted that the agriculture sector is expected to create approximately 6,000 jobs and urged lawmakers to expedite the budget’s passage for the welfare of the state.
