Okpehbolo pledges to copy Akpabio’s governorship achievements in Edo

by Tunexreporters

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, announced his intention to implement the developmental strategies of Senator Godswill Akpabio, used during his tenure in Akwa Ibom, to foster growth in Edo State. This information was shared in a statement by Fred Itua, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, on Sunday.

Okpebholo made these comments at a reception honoring him in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday. He recognized Akpabio’s significant contributions to the state’s development as governor from 2007 to 2015 and expressed his commitment to applying similar approaches to revitalize Edo.

He stated, “Akpabio, whom I fondly refer to as ‘the uncommon man,’ accomplished so much during his governorship, and Akwa Ibom’s history is incomplete without acknowledging his transformative impact. Before his tenure, Akwa Ibom was often overlooked, but through his efforts, Uyo has become one of the most admired cities in Nigeria.”

Okpebholo emphasized his resolve to replicate Akpabio’s successful development model in Edo, saying, “My visits have strengthened my belief that what we aim to accomplish in Edo is achievable. If Akpabio succeeded in Akwa Ibom, we can achieve similar results in Edo.”

He commended Akpabio for not only legislative advances made during his brief time as Senate President but also for effectively managing a legislative body that properly oversees the executive for the benefit of Nigerians. Okpebholo remarked, “No other Senate President has made such an impact on legislation in this country. In just one year, Akpabio has achieved what others took eight years to do.”

He thanked Akpabio for bringing him to Akwa Ibom and instilling the importance of learning from successful predecessors, assuring that he has heeded this advice and will strive to mirror Akpabio’s achievements in Edo.

In his response, Akpabio praised the governor for his humility and commitment to learning from those who have successfully navigated similar paths, indicating that this quality will contribute to his success in governance.
