A Federal High Court in Lagos has rejected a fundamental rights lawsuit brought by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky was seeking N200 million from the EFCC for “psychotic trauma” and an additional N1 billion from the National Assembly for allegedly violating his right to a fair hearing. He also requested the court to prevent the EFCC and the National Assembly from “harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.”
This controversy arose after social media influencer Martins Otse released an audio recording that claimed Bobrisky paid the EFCC N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him. In his ruling on November 28, Justice Alexander Owoeye stated that Bobrisky’s allegations of rights violations were unsubstantiated and lacked credible evidence.
The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, shared this information in a statement on Friday. The judge noted, “Having evaluated the evidence presented, it is clear that the Applicant has not provided sufficient evidence to warrant the requested declaratory and injunctive reliefs.” He concluded that Bobrisky’s claims against the EFCC and the National Assembly were baseless and dismissed them without awarding any damages.
