The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 93.52% of the results from the Ondo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal. As of 7:38 pm on Saturday, results from 3,684 out of 3,933 polling units where the election occurred have been posted online.
Eighteen political parties participated in the election, but the main competitors are incumbent governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and former deputy governor Agboola Ajayi. Aiyedatiwa represented the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Ajayi was the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Both candidates share the experience of having served as deputy governors in the administration of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away late last year. Following his death, Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the new leader of the state.
The election has been reported to be largely peaceful, with voting concluding in some areas around 2:30 pm, allowing for the sorting and counting of votes. Voting began at 8 am across the 3,933 polling units in the South-West state, with some election materials arriving as early as 6 am as INEC officials prepared for the event.
