Former presidential spokesman Doyin Okupe believes that Nigerians will vote for President Bola Tinubu again in 2027, allowing him to complete the constitutionally permitted two terms of eight years.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today show on Monday and monitored by Tunexreportes, Okupe asserted that there is an unspoken agreement regarding a rotational presidency between the northern and southern regions of the country. He stated that even though former President Muhammadu Buhari “did not perform well” during his eight years in office, Tinubu, who he claims is “doing well,” will be given the opportunity to serve his full term.
Okupe expressed confidence in the Nigerian electorate, stating, “Nigerians are reasonable, sensible people, not asking too much from their leaders,” following a recent meeting with the President in Abuja. He added that if Tinubu addresses issues like electricity, fuel crises, and food shortages by 2027, the public will likely rally behind him, declaring, “It’s Bola or nobody.”
Notably, Okupe, who previously supported Labour Party’s Peter Obi, remarked that the social media nickname “T-Pain” reflects a “temporary pain” that will eventually lead to improvements for the nation. As Nigeria grapples with unprecedented inflation, energy costs have surged dramatically since Tinubu took office in May 2023. In 2024, there have been significant protests against the government’s removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of forex windows, but the administration maintains its reforms are beneficial and irreversible.
