the edo 2024 gubernatorial election slated for september 21, has come and gone. the apc candidate sen. monday okpebholo has been declared winner by the constitutional electoral umpire, inec.
while apc has been marking its gubernatorial victory with series of celebrations across the 192 wards, 3 senatorial zones and 18 local governments, unfortunately pdp has been mourning. pdp, particularly its women, has been seen in pathetic mourning mood adorned in black dresses, signifying a great loss of somebody or something.
in a democratic system, election is a “winner takes it all, while the loser loses it all.” so, apc does not owe pdp any apology or sympathy for emerging the winner. after all, when pdp emerged the winner in the last local government election, which was conducted in the most criminal fashion amounting to a travesty of democracy and justice, apc did not cry wolf.
from the constitutional standpoint, as the loser, pdp has the right to seek redress in court over whatever grievances it has concerning the conduct of the election. however, from a moral standpoint, it actually lost that ” moral right” with the flagrant disregard to democratic principles in the conduct of the last lg election.
” he who must come to equity, must come with clean hands.” in other words, pdp does not have clean hands to seek equity and justice, as a moral right, considering its conduct in the last lg election.
apart from this, our entire human existence is guided by divine or cosmic laws of nature. one of the laws, which is biblical, is that of “sowing and reaping.” simply put, what you sow, you reap. the same law is philosophically refered to as the law of action and reaction, as well as the principle of cause and effect in the science of physics. the mystics sums it up as the law of “karma.”
whether gov. obaseki accepts it or not, it’s high time he faced or confront the consequences of his character and conduct, as one of the most incorrigible serial betrayers in the history of mankind. there’s always an end to everything.
as soon as he became governor, obaseki betrayed sen. oshiomhole who brought him from nowhere to the position, and the apc that gave him the political platform. on defecting to pdp, he betrayed everyone that assisted him, particularly in oiling the political machinery that gave him his second term in office. these include h.e. nyesom wike, and the legacy group comprising dan orbih, hon. ogbeide ihama, etc.
even those who followed him from apc to pdp were also not spared. these include: deputy governor philip shuaibu, barr. anslem ojezua and many others. infact, the list is endless.
as gov. obaseki tries to seek redress in court over the just concluded 2024 gubernatorial election, he should realize that the entire laws of nature are currently against him like a ferocious hurricane ready to sweep everything in its path. all the odds are against him and pdp.
when he flagrantly manipulated the lg election to his favour, apc did not bother to seek redress in court, knowing that what goes around, comes around. apc was sure that, if nothing else, he cannot escape the laws of nature. therefore, thinking that he can reverse the decision of inec declaring sen. monday okpebholo, is like attempting to take meat from the lion’s mouth, which is an impossibility. “who can deliver out of the lion’s mouth,” says the bible. non, except god, as in the case of daniel. so, predictably, his legal efforts will surely amount to an exercise in futility.
in summary, come november 12, sen. monday okpebholo will be sworn in as the governor of edo state. his deputy hon. dennis idahosa will also be sworn in. this is a date with destiny neither obaseki nor pdp can thwart.
it will significantly mark an end to one of the most treacherous civilian dictatorships in history, with its revulsive executive lawlessness and impunity. moreso, it will notably put an end to obaseki’s attempt to have a 3rd and 4th term by proxy, through his political godson, asue ighodalo. god forbid!
