During the INEC Stakeholders Conference in Benin City, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of INEC, announced that Edo State has 2.6 million registered voters.
He mentioned that the sensitive materials are prepared and will be sent to the Central Bank of Nigeria next week. Additionally, Yakubu stated that a mock accreditation was done successfully to get ready for the election.
During his speech, Police Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun emphasized the police force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful election in the state. He confidently stated that the NPF is ready for the challenge. He explained, “Our main goal is to create a safe atmosphere for the election to take place peacefully.
” He promised that there will be a large number of forces present during the election, including over 8,000 members from other agencies. He cautioned troublemakers to stay away during the election, and advised unofficial security groups and non-government actors to avoid getting involved during this time.
Two traditional leaders attended the event on behalf of the Oba Of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II. One person who brought the message from the Oba said that the Oba stays out of politics and wants whoever wins the election to improve Edo State.
