The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Tuesday as the factional National Executive Committee aligned with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, ratified the expulsion of three serving governors — Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
The faction also confirmed the expulsion of former PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice Chairman Bode George, and the party’s newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN.
This escalation follows last Saturday’s controversial national convention in Ibadan, where Wike and his loyalists were themselves expelled by the opposing camp.
The unfolding dispute led to a tense standoff at the PDP national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as both factions arrived to hold parallel NEC and BoT meetings.
At its Abuja meeting, the Wike-aligned NEC further dissolved the PDP state executive committees in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Lagos, Ekiti, and Yobe, directing that caretaker committees be installed and new congresses conducted.
According to a communiqué read by the National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, the NEC reviewed allegations of violations of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), including anti-party conduct, disregard for court orders, and actions deemed injurious to the party’s reputation.
The faction also approved disciplinary action against several high-profile members, including Adolphus Wabara, Bode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Turaki, Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, and others.
