The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of its enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the decision was made in compliance with a court order halting the exercise. Speaking during an interview on AIT, Adeh confirmed that the police officially received the directive and have since paused enforcement activities.
“Information from the PRO’s office indicates that the court order has been received, and the enforcement of tinted permits is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” she stated.
Adeh emphasized that the suspension will remain in effect until the legal process is concluded. “We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to abide by the ruling until a final decision is made,” she added.
She explained that the tinted glass policy was originally introduced for security purposes, noting that criminals had often used vehicles with darkened windows to conceal their identities and perpetrate crimes.
“The law was not made by us; we only enforce it. The policy was security-driven, as some offenders used tinted vehicles to commit crimes, making it hard for law enforcement to identify them,” Adeh explained.
