Presidency Confirms Resignation
The Presidency has officially confirmed the resignation of Minister Nnaji. In a statement released on Tuesday, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the minister’s departure from the cabinet.
Allegations of Forged Academic and NYSC Credentials
The resignation follows intense controversy and allegations that Minister Nnaji forged the academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates he submitted for his ministerial appointment.
According to a detailed investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, the credentials Nnaji presented to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate could not be authenticated. The allegations first emerged in July 2023 when he was named among the initial batch of ministerial nominees.
Investigation Reveals Inconsistencies
Key findings from the investigation include:
University Records: The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Simon Ortuanya, stated that while Nnaji was admitted to the institution in 1981, he did not complete his studies and was never awarded a degree. This directly contradicts Nnaji’s claim of having graduated in 1975.nNYSC Certificate: Authorities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) also disowned the discharge certificate presented by the minister, stating that it was “strange” to them and could not be verified.
These revelations had led to persistent claims from various quarters that Nnaji did not legitimately complete his university education and that the documents he submitted to the offices of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the State Security Service (SSS), and the Senate were fraudulent.
