Mudashiru Obasa was not present during Monday’s plenary session, despite his claims of still being the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly following his impeachment.
Reports indicate that the Assembly has directed its officials to present valid identification for access to the premises, indicating enhanced security measures at the complex.
On Monday, there was also a significant police presence around the Assembly as Mojisola Meranda officially took office as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
This plenary marked Meranda’s third session in charge since Obasa’s removal, with Obasa having missed the last two sessions.
During the session, 39 lawmakers, including Speaker Meranda, gathered at the assembly for a group photo, while Obasa was absent.
The photo aims to dispel rumors about divisions within the House following Obasa’s comments regarding his impeachment.
The former Speaker asserted over the weekend that he is still the legitimate Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, claiming that his impeachment was not conducted according to proper procedures.
It is anticipated that Meranda will appoint committee chairmen today to manage the activities of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in Lagos State.
