The Lagos State House of Assembly has addressed the claims made by former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is asserting that he still holds the position.
In a statement issued by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, it was emphasized that a significant majority of members support the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda. The lawmakers affirmed that the decision made on January 13, when Obasa was impeached, remains unchanged.
Olukayode noted that as elected officials representing the people of Lagos, the assembly members are committed to providing good governance and maintaining a cooperative relationship with other government branches. He stated, “The position of the house remains steadfast, and nothing has altered. The arguments presented by former Speaker Rt Hon Obasa are inappropriate and out of order.” He also pointed out that while Obasa was initially elected as speaker for the 10th Assembly, a majority decision led to his removal. He urged the former speaker to align with the path of peace and harmony that others are following.
