The people of Edo State have every reason to rejoice as Senator Monday Okpebholo, the newly sworn-in Governor, has hit the ground running, correcting the wrongs of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki. One of the most glaring examples of Obaseki’s mismanagement is the traffic light system installed by his administration, which stopped functioning barely four months after installation .
In stark contrast, the traffic lights installed by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole over 12 years ago are still functioning efficiently. This disparity in performance is a clear indication of the difference in governance styles and priorities between the two administrations. The Comrade buses introduced by Oshiomhole’s administration are also still in good condition, while those purchased by Obaseki’s administration have all broken down within four years.
The deplorable state of the Sobe road to Sabigida Ora road, which is being patched up less than six months after construction, is another example of Obaseki’s mismanagement of state resources. It is clear that the former governor’s administration was characterized by a lack of planning, incompetence, and corruption.
Senator Okpebholo’s determination to probe the Obaseki administration’s financial dealings and correct the wrongs of the past is a welcome development . The people of Edo State deserve transparency, accountability, and good governance, and it is heartwarming to see their new governor taking concrete steps to address their concerns.
As the people of Edo State look forward to a brighter future under Senator Okpebholo’s leadership, they can take comfort in knowing that their governor is committed to correcting the wrongs of the past and restoring the state’s glory.
