The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 2.6 million Nigerians have registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which is being conducted both online and in-person nationwide.
In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission said the figure reflects data from the first two weeks of online pre-registration and the first week of physical registration.
Between August 18 and August 31, 2025, a total of 2,532,062 Nigerians completed their online pre-registration. Of this number, 1,218,482 (48.12%) were male, while 1,313,580 (51.88%) were female. By age group, 1,602,484 (63.29%) were youths aged 18–34, while 647,528 (25.57%) identified as students.
INEC stressed that the online pre-registration is only the first phase of the process, adding that applicants must visit any of its 811 state and local government offices nationwide to capture their biometric details. “We urge all online pre-registrants to complete the process in-person at designated centres, otherwise their registration remains invalid,” the statement warned.
For Nigerians without internet access, INEC noted that physical registration is available at all centres from Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 3pm. The in-person registration, which commenced on August 25, 2025, has already recorded 72,274 fresh or completed registrations within five days, ending August 29. Out of this number, 35,622 (49.29%) were male and 36,652 (50.71%) female. Youths aged 18–34 accounted for 54,718 (75.71%), while 30,953 (42.83%) were students.
The Commission added that detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status have been uploaded on its official platforms. It also commended citizens for their strong participation, while appreciating civil society groups and organisations for mobilising voter registration nationwide.
