Air Peace Chairman and CEO, Allen Onyema, has said Nigeria’s aviation industry can only reach its full potential if urgent steps are taken to close critical airport infrastructure gaps.
Speaking at the 29th League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) Annual Conference in Lagos, Onyema identified the absence of proper transit systems at major airports as a major obstacle to the growth and profitability of Nigerian airlines. He noted that poor passenger connectivity has long hindered Nigeria from becoming a true regional hub, pushing travellers toward other African airports.
Onyema welcomed the Federal Government’s recent plans to revamp key airport facilities, including the reconstruction of Lagos airport to support modern transit operations. He expressed optimism that with consistent attention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria could develop competitive aviation infrastructure within two years.
He added that such improvements would indirectly finance airlines by cutting operational inefficiencies, reducing avoidable costs, and creating a more supportive environment for sustainable growth.
