The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will take place across 811 designated centres, including all 774 local government areas and 37 state and FCT offices.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission confirmed that the CVR will run Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, excluding national public holidays.
The commission’s latest update followed its weekly meeting to assess readiness for the CVR resumption and ongoing processing of new political party registrations.
As earlier disclosed, online pre-registration will begin on August 18, 2025, while in-person registration will kick off on August 25, 2025. Both options will run simultaneously for one year, concluding on August 30, 2026.
To aid citizens in locating registration points, INEC will launch a CVR Live Locator Tool accessible via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator, which will go live on August 17, 2025 — a day before the CVR starts.
Additionally, a 38-page document listing the addresses of all 811 registration centres has been uploaded to INEC’s official website and social media platforms. The commission has also released dedicated help desk phone numbers for each state to assist citizens seeking guidance.
Olumekun emphasized that the registration procedures remain the same as those used in 2022, with step-by-step guides and video demonstrations set to be published next week for public enlightenment.
Meanwhile, INEC revealed that it has received eight additional letters of intent from associations seeking recognition as political parties, bringing the total to 151. The details, including proposed names, logos, acronyms, addresses, and interim leadership structures, have also been made available online.
According to Olumekun, the commission has already developed a party registration portal and has begun shortlisting associations that meet the basic requirements for full application. Further updates will follow after the 16 scheduled bye-elections in 12 states on August 16, 2025.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely communication with citizens on all electoral matters.
