Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday. Images released by the State House displayed Fubara engaged in a closed-door meeting with Tinubu at his residence. The specifics of their discussion have not been revealed at this time.
Tinubu had suspended Fubara from his position amid rising political tensions in the state. This meeting marks the second private encounter between Fubara and Tinubu since his suspension on March 18. Along with his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state House of Assembly, Fubara was suspended for a period of six months by Tinubu, who also announced a state of emergency in a nationwide address.
The President stated this decision was aimed at restoring stability in the state, which has been experiencing political strife due to conflicts between the governor and state lawmakers. Following this declaration, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas was appointed as the administrator to manage governance in the state.
