BREAKING NEWS: PDP IN DISARRAY AS COALITION OF YOUTH LEADERS FROM ALL YOUTH BASED ORGANIZATIONS IN THE 18 LGAs OF EDO STATE ENDORSE SEN. MONDAY OKPEBHOLO.
Moments ago, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress *(APC)*, Edo state, was a discussant in the youth interactive session with governorship candidates of major political parties in the September 2024 election held in the state’s capital.
The event, organized by the renowned youth-centric group, Coalition of Edo Youth Leaders For Good Governance *(CEYLGG)*, an assembly of the leaders of all youth based organizations in the state, was an ample opportunity for these candidates to highlight their plans for Edo youths.
Speaking on behalf of the distinguished lawmaker, Barr. Paul Ohonbamu, a former member of the Edo state House of Assembly and a former Commissioner for Information in the state sermonized on the youth-centric vision of the APC candidate. Guided by the 5 point agenda of the candidate, the erudite Barrister spoke on Sen. Monday’s preparedness to ensure affordable and quality education for all, introduce vocational training programs to help build practical skills, promote STEM education and digital literacy to prepare youth for the future job market, develop initiatives to reduce youth unemployment, support youth entrepreneurship through access to grants, loans, and mentorship programs, encourage internships and apprenticeships to provide hands-on experience, increase funding for mental health services targeted at young people, implement school and community-based mental health awareness programs, promote healthy lifestyles through sports and recreational activities.
Furthermore, he touched on creating platforms that will provide youths the chance to advise or make contributions on policies affecting them, creating 18 affordable housing schemes for young people, ensuring safe and supportive housing options for homeless youths, facilitating youth access to high-speed internet and modern technology, providing digital literacy training and support for disadvantaged youth, supporting innovation and tech-based startups among young people, inspiring youth participation in community service and volunteerism, recognition and reward for contributions made by young people, and fostering their civic responsibility and leadership skills.
Convinced by his vision to prioritize these key thematic areas, the group endorsed the distinguished Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for the Edo state gubernatorial election, holding in September, 2024.
The State Coordinator of the group, Comr. Aigbovbiosa Asenoguan conveyed the decision of the 467 leaders of various youth based organizations to the candidate while harping on the need to liberate Edo state from it’s current state of decrepitude.
