Indications have emerged that the management of Dangote Group has agreed to grant workers at its refinery and petrochemical plant the right to join the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Reliable sources confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is currently being drafted and will soon be signed by both the company and the union. The document is expected to formalize the understanding and pave the way for a smooth recognition of the workers’ union membership.
It was further gathered that the parties are considering a two-week period for the full implementation of the MoU, signaling what observers have described as a major breakthrough in the ongoing dispute between the company and organized labor.
This development, if concluded, is likely to ease tension in the oil and gas sector and avert the planned industrial action that threatened to disrupt operations nationwide.
