Tinubu receives Buhari’s remains in Katsina

President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, received the remains of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport in Katsina.

According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu arrived the airport from Abuja at 1:42 p.m. and inspected a guard of honour before the Nigerian Air Force plane conveying Buhari’s remains landed at 1:51 p.m.

Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital, was accompanied back home by his wife, Aisha Buhari; Vice President Kashim Shettima; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and other family members.

His coffin covered with Nigerian flag, was flown into the state amid tight security.

Joining Tinubu at the airport were several dignitaries, including President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, Nigerien Prime Minister, Ali Lamine Zeine; former President of Niger, Issoufou Mahamadou; and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“A joint team of military pallbearers comprising nine senior officers laid the casket, draped with the Nigerian flag, on a trolley,” the statement read.

Tinubu and other dignitaries walked behind the trolley as the pallbearers escorted the late president’s body into a waiting military hearse for the one-hour journey to Daura, where funeral prayers and interment are scheduled to take place.
