Hon. Pius Alile, at the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) meeting, where the government reiterated its unrelenting support for agriculture and rural development.
During the meeting, AFAN Chairman, H.R.H. Alhaji E. Bako, expressed deep appreciation to Senator Monday Okpebholo for prioritizing the needs of farmers in Edo State. He criticized the previous administration for completely neglecting the agricultural sector—highlighting that not a single tractor was purchased and no fertilizers were distributed to farmers under Governor Obaseki’s leadership.
He proudly noted that Edo State is now taking the lead in catfish farming, cassava cultivation, and palm oil production.
Hon. Pius Alile, in his remarks, encouraged farmers to remain committed and resilient, assuring them that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo is determined to eradicate food shortages by placing agriculture high on its agenda.
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Gani Audu, conveyed the Governor’s gratitude to farmers, describing him as a farm-loving leader. He highlighted several key challenges that previously plagued the sector, including poor access to finance, insecurity, and lack of basic tools. He said the current administration has responded swiftly—with the procurement of 32 brand-new tractors and other farming implements, the donation of operational vehicles to security agencies, and the activation of the Edo State Security Network to secure farmlands and forests.
He also disclosed that the administration has released ₦1 billion as intervention funds to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity. He reaffirmed that agriculture ranks second in the Governor’s five-point agenda.
Prince Tony Omoaghe, who was also present at the meeting, described himself as a farmer and praised Governor Okpebholo as a leader who gets things done. “He is a man of action, not just words. May God continue to grant him the grace and strength to transform Edo State,” he said.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to endorse some of the guests as the association patrons.
