MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the cost of its DStv decoder by 50%, lowering the price from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.
The company stated that this initiative is designed to attract more customers and combat falling subscription numbers.
In a statement on Tuesday, the CEO, John Ugbe, described the price cut as a way to reward customer loyalty and provide increased value to subscribers.
“We want to ensure our customers feel valued and have daily access to top-notch entertainment. The ‘We Got You’ campaign focuses on making premium content more available and demonstrating that DStv caters to a variety of interests, not just sports fans.
“By redefining itself as a source of daily value, DStv plans to promote the discovery of diverse content across genres like movies, drama, children’s programming, and news.
“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to watch every day,” the statement noted.
Additionally, the company announced a promotional offer allowing subscribers to receive a free upgrade to the next DStv package tier if they pay for their current plan in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025.
MultiChoice justified the price reduction and free upgrade offer as a response to the significant economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
This announcement follows a loss of 1.4 million subscribers from March 2023 to March 2025.
It’s important to note that MultiChoice Nigeria had previously raised its DStv and GOtv subscription prices three times within a year: first in April 2023, then again in November 2023, and a third increase announced in April 2024, effective May 1.
