Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His formal declaration is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Addressing reporters on Saturday, Kefas described his planned defection as a decisive step aligned with the “destiny of the Taraba people,” noting that the event is expected to draw a large crowd.
“There will be a major political realignment on November 19,” he stated. “I will formally leave the PDP for the APC. This movement is tied to the future of our people.”
Kefas becomes the latest PDP governor to switch parties in 2025, joining the likes of Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).
Elected in 2023 with 257,926 votes, Kefas defeated NNPP’s Muhammad Yahaya and APC’s Emmanuel Bwacha to win the governorship. His defection marks a historic political change in Taraba, where the PDP has held uninterrupted control since 1999.
