The All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a major political victory on Saturday following the defection of four members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, five members of the House of Representatives, and thousands of their supporters to the ruling party during a mega rally held at Murtala Square, Kaduna. With the latest defections, the APC now controls 13 of Kaduna’s seats in the House of Representatives, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with three, while in the State Assembly, the APC holds 26 seats compared to PDP’s eight.

The event was attended by top APC figures including the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, and the Chairman of the North West Development Commission, Lawal Yakawada.

Governor Uba Sani, while welcoming the new members, assured them of equal treatment within the party, emphasizing that the APC remains one united family. He stated that what matters most is the ability of members to connect with the grassroots and serve their constituents effectively.

Recalling the party’s growth, Sani noted that the APC had only four federal lawmakers from the state in 2023 but now boasts 14, declaring that “there is no opposition in Kaduna today.” He also predicted that APC would secure 95 percent of votes in the state during the 2027 elections, citing his administration’s focus on justice, fairness, and inclusivity.

The governor highlighted the peace and unity achieved in the state since he assumed office, saying his administration had turned Kaduna’s diversity into a source of strength, ensuring even development across all 23 local government areas.

In his remarks, APC National Chairman Yilwatda described the party as “the promised land” for Nigerian politicians, adding that both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani deserve a second term in office.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas applauded the party’s dominance in Kaduna, noting that the APC has achieved unprecedented political strength across all three senatorial zones of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Hussaini Jalo thanked President Tinubu and Governor Sani for their leadership, declaring that Kaduna has effectively become a one-party state.

Prominent defectors at the rally included federal lawmakers Sadiq Ango (Sabon Gari), Abdulkarim Husseini Ahmad (Kaduna South), Aliyu Mustapha Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau), and Hussaini Jalo (Igabi), alongside former Senators Danjuma Lah, Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, and Shehu Sani, as well as former Governor Muktar Ramalan Yero and former PDP State Secretary Hon. Saidu Adamu.
