Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, has formally announced his departure from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), shortly after being expelled by the faction loyal to former Kano governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Jibrin, expelled over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues, described the decision as unfair and lacking due process. He argued that his recent interview in English and Hausa should not have attracted such a “heavy penalty,” stressing that dissenting views align with the party’s founding principles.
The lawmaker lamented that he was denied fair hearing, saying, “No invitation was extended to me to explain myself. Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial.”
Although he expressed a desire to remain in the NNPP, Jibrin said he accepted the expulsion in good faith and would not pursue legal action. He urged the party to let him leave in peace while pledging to settle any outstanding dues once invoiced.
Criticizing the party’s leadership, the former Director-General of Tinubu Support Groups accused the NNPP of failing to value its members, asserting that “no matter what you bring on board, you are treated as a nobody.”
Jibrin thanked supporters for standing by him and called on them to join him in his “new journey,” promising to weigh his political options carefully before choosing his next platform.
His exit adds to the deepening rifts in Kano’s political landscape, fueling speculation about a possible return to the APC.
