Deji Adeyanju Vows to Back Tinubu Over Obi in 2027 if ADC Fields Former Anambra Governor

by Tunexreporters

Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has said he would rather vote for President Bola Tinubu than support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) fields the former Anambra Governor as its candidate.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, Adeyanju rejected claims that his criticisms of Obi were aimed at discrediting him, stressing that, “God forbid that I support APC. If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote for Tinubu.”

His rift with Obi has deepened into a legal battle after the 64-year-old politician threatened to sue him for alleged defamatory remarks made in media interviews and on social media. Adeyanju dismissed the lawsuit, expressing readiness to meet Obi in court.

The activist accused Obi of fostering a toxic political culture, blaming some “Obidient” supporters for harassing opponents online. He argued that Obi lacked the democratic credentials and sacrifices of other Nigerians who fought for the country’s democracy.

Adeyanju, reflecting on his voting history, maintained he had always voted on principle, noting that he supported Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999, Goodluck Jonathan in both 2011 and 2015, while opposing Muhammadu Buhari’s candidacy.
