Sowore Freed, Describes Detention as ‘Illegal and Unjust

by Tunexreporters

Human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has regained his freedom after being held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja since Wednesday.

Sowore was detained when he honoured an invitation from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit. Confirming his release in a Facebook post, he described his arrest as “illegal, unjust, and unwarranted,” noting that the Nigeria Police Force had bowed to pressure from the revolutionary movement.

“This is not a victory to celebrate, but I appreciate everyone who refused to give up,” he wrote.

His release followed protests staged by his supporters in at least five states earlier on Friday.
