In a bold and well-executed mission, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), have rescued Engineer Joshua Saleh, a lecturer at Taraba State University.

Engineer Saleh was abducted by suspected kidnappers on July 31, 2025, along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to a military statement, acting on actionable intelligence, the joint team launched a targeted search and rescue mission across several locations, including Kente, Sondi 1 and 2, Yaku, and the Warawa general area.

During the operation, troops encountered the kidnappers and engaged them in a gun duel. The criminals, unable to withstand the superior firepower, fled the scene and abandoned their captive. Engineer Saleh was recovered safely and unharmed.

Commending the troops for their bravery and professionalism, Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the effective coordination between the Army and DSS. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring lasting peace in Taraba State.

General Uwa also called on residents to stay alert and provide credible information to security agencies to help curb crime and enhance public safety.
