President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the death of his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away today in London around 4:30 PM after a long illness.

The President has expressed his heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Aishat Buhari, the widow of the former president. In addition, he has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the UK to bring President Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
Buhari was elected President of Nigeria twice, in 2015 and 2023, and previously served as the military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985. As a tribute to the late leader, President Tinubu has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff.
