The problem of insecurity in Edo State did not start overnight. It was a direct result of the insensitivity, negligence, and failure of the previous administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki and his political ally, Asue Ighodalo.
For years, Edo State was left without a concrete security strategy, allowing criminal elements to thrive. Banditry, kidnapping, and attacks on farmers became the norm, while the PDP-led government turned a blind eye to the suffering of the people.
Rather than take proactive measures, the previous administration failed to empower security agencies and local vigilantes in a structured and lawful manner. This lack of leadership created a security vacuum that exposed communities to unending attacks from criminals, including armed herders and kidnappers. The people of Edo cried out for help, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.
However, since assuming office, Governor Monday Okpebholo has taken bold steps to restore security and protect Edo residents. Unlike his predecessor, who was focused on propaganda and signing meaningless Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Okpebholo has shown practical leadership by strengthening security operations across the state. His administration is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies, local communities, and stakeholders to ensure that Edo State is safe for all.
There is now a visible turnaround in the security situation of the state, as decisive actions are being taken to dismantle criminal networks. The people of Edo can now see a government that is serious about their safety and well-being. Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to fixing the security mess left behind by Obaseki and the PDP is a testament to his dedication to good governance. Edo State is on the path to recovery, and under Okpebholo’s leadership, insecurity will soon be a thing of the past.
