The Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps announced on Sunday that a tragic road accident on the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway in the Onipetesi community of Odigbo Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals on Saturday evening.

The victims were reportedly burned alive when two buses collided head-on, leading to a fire. Sector Commander Mr. Samuel Ibitoye confirmed the incident, noting that initial investigations indicated that one of the vehicles was traveling against the flow of traffic. He stated, “Thirty people died in the accident. Twenty-eight were burned beyond recognition, and although two individuals initially survived, they later passed away on their way to the hospital.”

An eyewitness recounted that the incident occurred when two commercial buses collided and ignited, leaving no survivors. “We were nearby when we heard a loud bang. When we reached the scene, we found two burning vehicles, and some people inside were struggling to get out. Shortly after, FRSC officers arrived and took the two survivors to the hospital, but we later learned they had also died,” the witness explained.

The FRSC commander urged drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic rules on the expressway.
