As Traders in Benin City Take Protest To Government House
The Edo State Governor has extended an invitation to leaders of market traders in Edo State, who led a crowd of protesters to Government House today the 22nd of January to seek the intervention of the Governor over a series of issues.
This invitation from the Governor was conveyed to the protesters by Hon. Pius Alile, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, who received them, while assuring them of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to addressing their problems.
Earlier on, leader of the protesters, and President of Edo Traders Welfare Association, Comrade Lucky Orukpe, tabled a series of complaints, including manipulation by the Iye Eki, and underground operations by some members of the banned market unions, whose activities had impacted negatively on food pricing in the various markets across Benin City.
The meeting with the Governor is scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 23rd January.
