Major General Olufemi Oluyede has officially taken over as the Acting Chief of Army Staff during a handover ceremony at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Friday. This information was shared by the Defence Headquarters, which posted photos from the event on its X account, captioning it, “Formal Taking Over Ceremony of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General OO Oluyede.”
It was reported that President Bola Tinubu appointed Major General Oluyede to the acting position while Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja is receiving treatment abroad due to health concerns. Prior to this appointment, Oluyede was the 56th Commander of the prestigious Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army located in Jaji, Kaduna.
At 56 years old, Oluyede, along with Lagbaja, is a graduate of the 39th Regular Course, and he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992, with an effective date of 1987. He achieved the rank of Major-General in September 2020.
Oluoyede assumes office as acting chief of Army staff.
