Israel said that UN chief Antonio Guterres is not welcome in the country because he did not strongly condemn Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
The Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, stated that anyone who cannot clearly denounce Iran’s attack should not be allowed in Israel. Katz also called Guterres an anti-Israel Secretary-General who supports terrorists, rapists, and murderers. Katz said that Guterres backed groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, the Huthis, and Iran, which he called the main source of global terror. He believes that Guterres will be seen as a bad mark on the UN’s history for many years.
After Iran launched missiles at Israel on Tuesday night, Guterres criticized the growing conflict in the Middle East, calling out the continuous increase in tensions. He stated that this cycle of violence needs to end. “We really need a ceasefire,” stated Guterres.
Israel has strongly criticized the UN, and relations between the country and the international organization have worsened since the October 7 Hamas attacks. Guterres has continuously asked for a ceasefire to stop the violence in Gaza and Lebanon.
