As the adage goes, “When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.” Unfortunately, the people of Edo State have borne the brunt of poor governance under the previous administration. However, with Governor Monday Okpebholo at the helm, the state is gradually finding its footing. Marking one year in office, the governor’s administration has made significant strides in rebuilding the state.
The governor’s leadership style has been likened to a “Universal Captain” who skillfully navigates the complexities of governance. His administration’s efforts to fix the “accidentally damaged vehicle” that is Edo State are commendable. From security to education and infrastructure, the governor’s policies are yielding positive results.
In the area of security, the governor has taken bold steps to ensure the safety of citizens. The provision of over 60 Hilux buses and 400 motorcycles to security agencies is a testament to his commitment to enhancing security in the state. Additionally, the recruitment of 2,500 men and women into the Edo Security Corps will further bolster security efforts.
The education sector has also received attention, with the governor integrating 5,000 teachers into the Edo Civil Service. This move will undoubtedly improve the quality of education in the state. Furthermore, the allocation of N1 billion seed money for bursary and scholarship is a welcome development.
Infrastructure development is also on track, with the governor’s administration embarking on the construction of flyovers and roads across the state. The Ramat flyover and Dawson Road projects are set to ease traffic congestion and improve the overall infrastructure of the state.
While the governor’s efforts are commendable, it is essential to acknowledge the challenges he inherited. The previous administration’s eight-year tenure left behind a trail of decay and rot, which the current administration is working tirelessly to address.
As the governor marks his one year in office, it is clear that he is committed to rebuilding and restoring the state’s lost glory. With his “can-do” attitude and commitment to transparency and accountability, there is hope for a brighter future for the people of Edo State. Let us celebrate the governor’s achievements and support his efforts to build a better Edo State.
