It was a gathering of prominent personalities and political heavyweights on Sunday in Benin City as Beetv News marked its second anniversary with a colourful celebration themed “Nigeria’s Future: Bleak or Bright?”
The event attracted notable figures including the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; former Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; Representative of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Opkebholo Aneni; Hon. Billy Osawaru, and Hon. Esosa Iyawe, among several others.
In his keynote address, Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa commended Beetv News for its balanced reportage and professionalism, describing it as “one of the most credible and objective media organisations in Nigeria.” He announced a donation in support of the station’s continued growth and innovation in journalism.
Idahosa, who represented Governor Okpebholo, also used the occasion to reflect on Edo State’s political and developmental journey. He lauded Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s administration (2008–2016) for laying the foundation of modern Edo through massive infrastructural projects and human capacity development.
He, however, criticised the 2016–2024 administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, describing it as “a period of failure and mismanagement.” Idahosa accused the Obaseki-led government of “denying 14 elected lawmakers their constitutional right to represent their constituencies, refusing to swear in judges cleared by the National Judicial Council (NJC), and showing gross disrespect to the state’s revered traditional institutions.”
Speaking at the event, Hon. Pius Alile congratulated Beetv News on its milestone and praised the management for maintaining high ethical standards. He emphasised the crucial role of the media in strengthening democracy, fostering accountability, and promoting good governance.
On her part, Ms. Best Nbere, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Beetv News, expressed appreciation to all invited guests and well-wishers for their support. She pledged to make Beetv one of the leading and most trusted news platforms in Nigeria, committed to truth, fairness, and national development.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages, and musical performances, creating a lively atmosphere that underscored the importance of collaboration between the media and political leaders in shaping a better Nigeria.
