The Labour Party has raised alarm after its National Chairman, Julius Abure, was allegedly assaulted by a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, has prompted the party to accuse “anti-democratic elements” of orchestrating the attack.
In a statement released on Saturday, Labour Party spokesperson Obiora Ifoh said Abure was standing in line to board a Max Air flight to Benin when Mama P suddenly confronted him. According to Ifoh, the confrontation continued during the flight, despite repeated appeals from flight attendants, and escalated further after the plane landed in Benin.
“The attacker, Madam P, who is also a content creator, harassed Abure throughout the journey, ignoring the crew’s interventions. The scene drew significant attention from passengers and continued during disembarkation, with the woman recording the encounter,” Ifoh stated.
Security operatives at the Benin Airport reportedly intervened, escorting Abure to safety while the woman was handed over to the police.
The Labour Party expressed further shock after Mama P released a video in which she allegedly boasted of her influence. “In one of her videos, she claimed to have connections at the highest levels of the police, bragged that nothing would happen to her, and vowed to keep attacking Abure and Labour Party executives, accusing them of destroying the party and blaming Abure for Peter Obi’s exit,” the statement read.
Describing the assault as “suicidal aggression,” the party insisted it was politically motivated. “We believe this agent was working on behalf of her paymasters. Assault and cyber-bullying are serious crimes, and we call on the police to identify her sponsors and bring them to justice,” Ifoh said.
While condemning the attack, the Labour Party urged members to remain calm and avoid retaliation, pending the outcome of police investigations.
Since gaining national prominence in the 2023 elections through Peter Obi’s campaign and the Obidient movement, Julius Abure has faced persistent leadership disputes within the party. Although some court rulings, including those of the Court of Appeal, have upheld his chairmanship, an April 2025 Supreme Court decision raised fresh questions over the legitimacy of his tenure.
The party remains divided, with multiple factions laying claim to leadership amid ongoing disputes over its constitution, convention timelines, and the role of caretaker committees.
